Climate Change: Environmental Crisis or Political Agenda?
The world is undeniably experiencing unseasonable storms and adverse, extreme weather events now. This current environmental crisis
plaguing the world has been termed "global warming," but is now more loosely being called "climate change." Scripture describes this
vividly saying "The whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth…" (Rom 8:22). The dire predictions in the 1970s was
global cooling with a new ice age being the primary scare tactic. This has swung the other way with global warming now portrayed as the
primary risk.
Historical Climate Patterns
There have been cycles of significant temperature and climatic fluctuation in the past. Throughout Earth's history, natural climate variations have occurred due to solar activity, volcanic eruptions, and orbital changes. These historical patterns demonstrate that climate change is not exclusively a modern phenomenon, though the current rate of change appears unprecedented in recorded history. Understanding these natural cycles provides essential context for evaluating today's environmental concerns.
Human Impact and Responsibility
Human activity and pollution have had a detrimental effect on the earth that we were charged to look after, yet it is debatable if we are
the sole cause (Gen 2:15). The greenhouse gas emissions concept leading to "green laws" and technologies developed in the hope of protecting
"Mother Earth" have created financial gain and political power for a small minority.
A strategy to bring in crippling restrictions
While it can be advantageous to explore renewable sources of energy and reduce our carbon footprint, our responsibility as stewards of God's creation must be balanced with wisdom and discernment regarding proposed solutions and their real impacts.
Climate change is one of the major focuses of the World Economic Forum/One World Government. The western world has embraced the narrative to bring about restrictive limitations on industry and agriculture to meet unscientific objectives. Such measures impose unnecessary and ill-founded burdens, impoverishing many people in the process of trying to fix it. The climate agenda has become a vehicle for consolidating power and wealth while implementing policies that may have limited actual environmental benefit but significant economic consequences for ordinary people.
Our priority, as Christians, should be proclaiming the gospel. This has the power to save souls for eternity, not just the world that will ultimately be destroyed. In the end-times, God will destroy the present heaven and earth with fire and replace them with the New Heavens and New Earth (2 Pet 3:7-12; Rev 21:1-2). Our responsibility is not to divert our attention away from the real issue of sin within the human heart but to share Jesus with people as He instructed us (Mt 28:19-20; 1 Cor 9:16; 2 Tim 4:2).
Reflection and Application:
- How can Christians balance environmental stewardship with biblical priorities of gospel proclamation?
- What role should discernment play in evaluating climate policies and their real-world impacts?
- How might the climate narrative align with end-times prophecy and biblical warnings about deception?
- What practical steps can believers take to care for creation while maintaining spiritual focus?
