Soul Ties

In the course of life we can have good, wholesome, working relationships, with others of the same or opposite gender, without any sexual overtones. This was the total commitment to, and deep friendship between Jonathan and David (1 Sam 18:1). Beyond that, a soul tie is an intense, emotional bond or connection with someone; it can be good, such as with one’s spouse, or unwise and spiritually destructive, when attracted emotionally towards someone else, especially of the opposite sex. The immoral overtones or impure thoughts can result in mental adultery or involve physical sexual relationships such as “being one in spirit with a prostitute” (Mt 5:27,28; 1 Cor 6:16).

Anything beyond a normal, healthy relationship will bring us into a bondage which must be broken, by repenting and destroying any gifts symbolizing the unholy attraction, so it can’t be an opening for Satan to exploit (Eph 4:27).
