Lesbian: Female Homosexual
The term lesbian refers to a woman who engages in sexual activity with another woman.
God's Design for Sexuality
From the beginning, God established a clear design for human sexuality: "So God created man in His own image... male and female He created them" (Gen 1:27). God's plan for sexual expression is explicitly defined: "For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh" (Gen 2:24). Jesus reaffirmed this pattern (Mt 19:4-5).
This design—one man and one woman united in marriage—is the only context in which God blesses sexual intimacy. Marriage reflects the relationship between Christ and His Church (Eph 5:31-32). The marriage bed must be kept pure (Heb 13:4), and God's standard extends to the heart, not merely external actions (Mt 5:27-28).
Understanding Lesbianism
Attraction is the internal emotional, romantic, or sexual feeling toward members of the same gender. Yet unless controlled, these feelings can lead to the physical act of engaging in sexual activity with a member of the same gender. Scripture calls believers to exercise self-control and bring every thought into captivity to Christ (2 Cor 10:5).
What Scripture Says
The biblical text addresses female homosexual behaviour directly, stating that "even women exchange natural relations for unnatural ones" (Rom 1:26). This passage speaks of the departure from God's created order in human relationships. While such behaviour may be accepted and embraced by society, it is condemned by God.
Scripture is clear that those who persist in sexual perversions will not inherit the kingdom of God. As Paul writes: "Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Cor 6:9-10). This sobering warning underscores the seriousness with which God views sexual sin.
The Call to Holiness
Not everyone who experiences same-sex attraction acts on those feelings. The responsibility is on each person to control their thoughts and bring their desires into alignment with God's plan for sexuality. God calls His people to holiness, to be set apart from the patterns of this world (Rom 12:2).
This requires intentional effort—fleeing temptation, renewing the mind through Scripture, and relying on the Holy Spirit's power. The Christian life is not passive but calls for active pursuit of righteousness.
Hope for Transformation
Yet there is hope. Immediately after listing those who will not inherit the kingdom of God, Paul continues: "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God" (1 Cor 6:11). This verse offers profound hope—transformation is possible through Christ.
The gospel message is one of redemption and new life. No sin is beyond the reach of God's grace. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, lives can be changed, desires can be transformed, and people can find freedom from patterns of sin that once enslaved them. Countless testimonies bear witness to this reality.
Change is possible. Healing is possible. In Christ, there is forgiveness for past sins and strength to walk in newness of life. As Paul wrote: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Cor 5:17).
