Unfaithful

<<disloyal>>

Being unfaithful means not honouring one’s word or commitment. This includes ‘cheating on’ or breaking the marriage vow by having sexual relationships with another person. Jesus said, if any such action is wrong, so also is the thought and “God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” (Mt 5:27,28; Heb 13:4). Any unfaithful ungodly action has consequences (2 Sam 12:9-14).

Israel was unfaithful to God, committing spiritual adultery by repeatedly following heathen gods, giving to them the devotion that should have been directed to Him (1 Sam 8:8; Jdg 2:11-13; Jer 16:11; Ezek 23:37; Jas 4:4). Peter was disloyal to Jesus, not acknowledging he was a follower and

strongly denying he knew Jesus, yet like Peter if we truly repent, we will be forgiven and restored (Mt 26:31-35, 69-75; Jn 21:15-17).

Trust is quickly shattered yet takes a long-time to rebuild. Jesus commented upon the person who is unfaithful in small things, saying ‘how can they be trusted to handle riches or someone else’s property’ (Lk 16:10-12)?
