The Transfiguration of Jesus

On a mountain, the hidden glory of the Son broke through for a moment, and three disciples saw Jesus as He truly is.

A Revelation on the Mountain

Jesus had a transformation experience on a mountain when His face shone like the sun and His clothing became dazzling white (Mt 17:1-13). The phenomenon came from within and was not a reflection from some external light source.

What the disciples witnessed was not a disguise temporarily set aside, but a momentary unveiling of the divine glory that had always been His.

Divine Confirmation: Superior to the Forerunners

This complete change in visible appearance was a special revelation to three of the disciples (Peter, James, John) that Jesus was truly God’s Son. It was also God’s confirmation of everything He had done and everything He was yet to do.

The presence of Moses and Elijah (representing the law and the prophets), together with the supernatural testimony from heaven, showed how superior Christ was to these forerunners.

Where the law and the prophets pointed forward to Him, Jesus stands as their fulfilment and the fullness of God’s revelation.

Reflection and Application

• "Listen to Him" – the Father’s command calls us to put the words of Jesus above all else.
• That mountaintop moment fills us with hope for the glorious future that awaits.
