Son of God

Jesus Christ, is the Son of the living God (Mt 16:16,17; Lk 1:35; Jn 20:31). “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” (Jn 3:16). Jesus was not a literal son or descendent of the Father, as we understand human sonship, rather the old term ‘begotten’ expresses His unique relationship to His Father, God, who He said was greater than He is (Jn 14:28). As believers we are adopted into the divine family and so become children of God, again not literally but in kinship or closeness of relationship because of Jesus (Jn 1:12; 1 Jn 3:1).
