Nazarite

A Nazarite was not a person from Nazareth but one who made a special vow of dedication to God for a period of time from a month to a lifetime. There were three main requirements – not cutting the hair, touching a dead body or drinking any alcohol – and also special activities to conclude the period (Num 6:1-22). Samson was to be set apart by his parents as a Nazarite from the time of his birth (Jdg 13:1-5).
