Mary Magdalene
<<close follower of Jesus>>
Jesus delivered her of seven demons (evil spirits) and she became a devoted follower (Mk 16:9). She was the first to see the risen Christ and convey the message to the disciples.
Her story is told in Matthew 27:56, 28:1-10; Mark 15:47-16:10; John 20:1-18.
Lessons from her life: * She was one of a group of very caring and devoted followers of Jesus. She was present at His crucifixion and later bought supplies to embalm Jesus’ body. Do we follow Christ just for what He can do for us or do we find opportunities to show our devotion and appreciation because of what He has done for us (Lk 8:1-3)?
* In the midst of her grief and confusion, she recognised the voice of Jesus – do we (Jn 20:16)? Only through regular encounters will we get to know His unmistakable voice, so spend quality time in His presence. She called Him “Master”. Does that term echo my relationship?
* To her was given the message to tell the other disciples that Jesus was alive (Jn 20:17). Am I faithfully sharing the good news that brings hope and joy to those bewildered by the situations of life and Christians who are disillusioned by the way God does things?
