Law of Christ

The Bible states, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ” (Gal 6:2). The term “law of Christ” is also mentioned in 1 Cor 9:21. While there is no specific definition in Scripture it is considered to be what Christ stated were the greatest commandments – “To love God with all of our being and to love our neighbours as we love ourselves” (Mk 12:30,31). These two commands were at the core of the OT laws.

By truly and wholeheartedly obeying these two commands, we will be fulfilling everything that God requires of us. We are to love one another with our love for God outworked through obeying His commands, not in a legalistic manner but because we understand the sacrifice Jesus made for us (Jn 13:15, 14:15; 1 Jn 4:7,8, 5:3). He enables us to follow His example in expressing love to others.
